The Nature of Books (Rising 3rd to 5th Graders)

07/17/2023 09:00 AM - 03:30 PM ET

Description

Do you love to curl up with a book and enjoy a walk in the woods?

Then you are the perfect soil for this seed that will grow from a love of nature and books into a deep forest of art, learning, and care for our planet.

Join us for a week of discovering where books come from and then learn how to grow a book of your own!  (We’ll give you a hint: trees, no really! The word ‘book’ is from the German for Beech Tree… and, of course, they grow in your fertile imagination.)

We will be merging the outdoor and indoor classroom as we explore the trees, creek, and plants in Baker Park and then return to the studio with leaves, bark, rocks, and material to print with.  We will make paper, ink, print with relief images, the sun, write poetry and more.  At the end of the week, each student will assemble and bind the pages they created each day into a book of their own.  This is how your own library forest begins!

No additional supplies necessary. Please provide a lunch, snack, and waterbottle for your child.
