Introduction to Monotype Printing
April 26, 11AM - 2:30PM (30 minute break for lunch)
$75
Instructor: Xavier Byrdlee
In-Studio Class
Monotype is one of the most versatile methods of printmaking and can be used to create a plethora of effects. Learn how to use this method to incorporate unique textures and techniques in your printmaking!
In this class we will learn what monotype is, the difference between monotype and monoprint, and best practices for running objects through the press. Students are encouraged to bring objects to use in their prints; keep in mind that not all objects will be able to run through the press. Soft objects like fabrics, leaves and flowers, and paper are best. The instructor has discretion on what can and cannot be used with the press. In addition to techniques to use in the studio, we will learn some techniques to make monotypes at home! Since monotype is so versatile, you have the option of making prints, bookmarks, or both!
NOTE:
We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
