7:15 - 9:15 PM EST
$145 includes a mailed kit
Instructor: Nic Heersema
Zoom (this class will be recorded)
Learn the basics of Coptic, Byzantine, and Ethiopian bookbinding as you make a blank notebook in each style. A great way to learn historical styles, add new bindings to your repertoire and easy enough to try for your first bookbinding adventure.
This class provides mailed kits with all the supplies you will need to make 3 different historical styles.
The first class will teach you the basics of Coptic bookbinding: unsupported link-stitch on multiple stations.
The second class will teach you the Byzantine style of stitching: extended unsupported link-stitch on multiple stations. Each half of the book is sewn separately and joined together in the middle.
The third class will teach you the Ethiopian method of sewing the book: paired-needle unsupported link-stitch on two stations.
The pre-cut supplies will be mailed to individual participants - if you would like multiple kits sent to the same mailing address we can give a discount on shipping, please contact us for more details.
NOTE:
We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
