Sew a raised cord style book!

We will be using a variety of bookbinding skills to make a hardcover journal. Beautiful marbled paper, paste paper, or your own watercolor design will be used to decorate the cover. Discover how to use recycled denim or garment leathers to cover the spine of your book. Our books will be made using watercolor paper, making them perfect for watercolor, painting media, sketching and pen work - a beautiful book for beautiful work of art.

Attendees will go home with a finished journal as well as a selection of bookbinding tools for future projects, and of course the knowledge to make more of these wonderfully tactile and useful books.

Supplies needed by participants:

All needed tools will be provided, however anyone who has a preference for their own bookbinding tools should feel free to bring them. We will be sewing and working with small details for those who may desire extra magnification for such activities. Feel free to also bring personal water color brushes and paints for cover decorating if you would like to paint your own cover.

NOTE:

We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
