February 4, 11, 18 6-8pm
$150 per person
Instructor: Charlotte Mauler Hayes
In-Studio Class
Take your first steps into the magic world of darkroom photography. We will explore how light creates hidden images and chemistry reveals and makes them permanent.
During our first class we will start by experimenting with translucent, semi-opaque, and opaque objects to create photograms. (Bring some small objects if you would like!)
The second day will focus on printing from negatives on the enlargers. Bring some of your favorite 35mm developed negatives (ideally black and white, but we can work with color). If you don't have your own negatives let us know and we will bring some extras!
The third day is all about refining and controlling your prints. Learn about burning and dodging to control the light and dark areas of a photo. We will also learn how to use contrast filters to soften photos or make them more punchy!
Students will be given a pack of 25 sheets of RC 5x7 multi grade paper as part of their class fees and and should have some paper left for future use. All students will also be certified to use the darkroom during future open studio sessionssession after completing this course.
