Boxmaking 101: Hinged Lid Box
Saturday, June 13th from 10am - 4pm (with half hour break)
$175
Instructor: Alexis Candelaria
In Studio Class
Get an introduction to custom boxmaking (and its kindred art, bookbinding) by making a simple hinged lid box. Skills such as cutting bookboard with a board shear and wrapping three-dimensional forms with decorative paper will be demonstrated and practiced. Go home with a sturdy and long-lasting example to build from.
As extremely precise cutting is necessary for success, each student will be provided with a kit of pre-measured pieces for the initial structure. Final decoration is a creative element; feel free to bring papers or other items that you would like to enhance your box with after assembly is complete.
Tools will be provided along with discussion of their use, but if you have your own, they are also welcome.

NOTE:
We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
