In-Studio Class

We will be using a variety of bookbinding skills to make a hardcover journal. Beautiful marbled paper, paste paper, or decorative paper from your own stash to decorate the cover. Discover how to use recycled denim or garment leathers to cover the spine of your book. Our books will be made using text weight paper, making them perfect for writing, sketching and pen work - a beautiful book for beautiful words and artistic drawings.

Attendees will go home with a finished journal and the knowledge to make more of these wonderfully tactile and useful books.

Supplies needed by participants: Decorative paper from your stash if there is a particular paper your would like to use

About the Instructor:

Dawn Hoffmann

Books have always been important to Dawn! She loves reading, learning, imagining, creating, studying, making, teaching about and sharing them! She is mostly a self taught bookbinder, printmaker, decorative paper and paper maker. She is also a metalsmith. Dawn loves to combine all of these things in her work. Her work can be found in various places from the White House collection of Crafts (silver punch bowl and ladle) to many private collections (various works). Teaching happens at various places; historic sites, schools, and other venues with hands-on and deep involvement emphasis no matter how short or long the course is!

NOTE:

We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
