Experimental Letterpress on the Vandercook

This class will present several experimental techniques and tools that reach beyond the basics of hand-set type or linocut blocks. Tools will include the Dry Inc. Rotary Angle chase and P22 Blox Modular Printing system (both developed by the instructor.) Techniques with color mixing on press, overprinting, offsetting transfers, brayer painting, and more will be demonstrated, with plenty of time for individual experimentation.

About the Instructor : Richard Kegler

Richard Kegler formed P22 Type Foundry in 1994 and after starting the Book Arts Center in Buffalo, New York, became the director of the Wells College Book Arts Center in Aurora, NY. Richard has spent his career combining an interest in traditional printing crafts with entrepreneaurial initiatives. His current project Dry Inc. in Rochester NY focuses on pre-digital letterpress printing technologies, typography, and new printing tool development.
