Join the Fold

Feeling foldy? Then this workshop's for you!

We'll be playing in the intersection between origami and bookmaking, creating folded books that require no adhesive. Many of the forms can be created from a single sheet of paper. One of the pieces we'll be making can be used as either a book cover or as a signature in a sewn book, and other pieces include hidden pockets. Structures include the Blizzard Book, Fishbone Binding, and Diagonal Pocket Folder. Ages 13 (with adult supervision) and up.

In this workshop, each participant will leave class with a completed set of 6 books and a basic knowledge of folding and bookbinding technique. You will receive a detailed handout and resource list for all materials we use. 

Experience in origami is helpful, but not required. Class registration will close on May 3rd to give your instructor time to mail students their class kits which can be purchased here. You can also source these materials on your own.

Supplies:

• Join the Fold Kit: Available in the FBAC store for $35 price includes shipping (Alternatively, students may gather their kit own supplies see kit listing for exact kit details).
• Bone folder
• Scissors
• X-Acto knife
• 12” metal ruler
• Awl
• Pencil
• Cutting mat
• Needle
• Japanese screw punch (or similar punch)
• Punching cradle or 6 mm (0.25”) craft foam sheet (like this: https://www.michaels.com/creatology-foam-sheet-6mm/M10390268.html)
• 2 yards unwaxed linen thread in student’s choice of color
