Create a Flag Book

03/18/2023 10:00 AM - 02:00 PM ET

Description

Learn to create a unique little "book" that's more an art project than something to read!  A flag book can include patterns, textures, words, or drawings that make people smile when the book is opened for display.  It can have a theme or just be a joyful jumble of color and shapes.

In the flag book class, you will learn the basics of creating a book cover from book board, covering the board with paper and creating clean, folded corners, folding an accordion spine properly so that it doesn't "stairstep," selecting designs and content for the "flags" that create the interior, measuring so that everything fits and works when the book opens and closes, and using tools like the utility knife, cutting mat, glue, and double stick tape.  The first book you make will be from pre-cut materials for the cover and spine.  The second one you will design yourself. Adult/teen class 13+ with adult assistance if under 16. Half hour break for lunch.

Supplies needed by participants:

None needed, but if you would like to bring your own interesting papers or other materials to add to your book feel free to! Your email will be shared with your instructor upon sign up so she can share ideas about materials that you may want to bring to personalize your book.

NOTE:

We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
