(No longer secret) Belgian Binding is a non-adhesive method of binding by weaving the spine to the covers. It is popular with artists and writers alike since it opens flat.  It is fun for all levels of experience!

Students will learn to cover the boards and spine with decorative paper, and then use waxed linen thread to “weave” them together.  Unlike more traditional books, where the text block is finished first, the pages in the Belgian binding will be sewn onto the cross threads inside the spine as the last part of binding.

Join us to  learn to make this unique binding. Beginner friendly and experienced binders welcome!

Supplies / experience needed by participants: none

NOTE:

We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
