Letterpress with Your Ideas, Your Art, Your Book
Thursdays, October 23, 30 and November 6, 12:00-4:00pm
$190
Instructors: Ellen Winkler & Eric Groff
In-Studio Class
In this class, we will be exploring artist book, designs and ideas to create an accordion style artist book using monotype prints. Words will be added by using letterpress. These two elements will enable us to create the finished books
The class will be broken up into three sections.
The first day will be led by Ellen and focus on forming ideas, and learning to create monotypes using Caran d’Ache artists' crayons. This monotype technique is easy to learn and allows students to use their existing images and visual themes or to create spontaneously using words and other forms of inspiration. The focus of the first session will be the creation of the monotypes and words and using the art and words as forms of inspiration.
The second session will be lead by Eric who will focus on composition as we learn about typesetting and using the letterpress to compose short words and phrases to compliment the ideas created in the first session.
The final session will be lead by Ellen and focuses on assembly of the final accordion book and binding the pieces together to complete the project.
NOTE:
We set our pricing to pay our instructors a fair wage and cover materials, but one of FBAC’s goals is to give access to the experience of all things bookbinding and printing to anyone who is interested. If you or someone you know would like to participate in a class but do not have the funding please reach out to contact@frederickbookarts.org and we will do what we can so no one has to miss out on the experiences we offer.
